Reworked just published a look at the intranet and employee experience market in 2026. The past two years have been defined by heavy investment, a wave of mergers, and AI reshaping nearly every product roadmap.
What’s Driving All This Intranet Investment and Consolidation?
The piece traces a wave of investment and consolidation across the sector, platforms merging with frontline and workplace experience tools, private equity backing new AI capabilities, and even investors from outside the tech world putting money into employee experience software. The common thread is that platforms are racing to become more complete employee experience hubs.
However, there is also “great renaming” underway, with several vendors rebranding to establish a clearer market position by adding “intranet” to their name. Additionally, AI is everywhere in roadmap conversation, from agentic capabilities to natural language search.
How Do You Keep an Intranet Platform Relevant as AI Changes Everything?
We’ve been building intranets since 1999, and we’ve recently rebuilt our platform from the ground up to meet the needs of organizations today, prioritizing longevity, not just trends.
Our CEO Rob Nikkel was quoted in the piece saying “Rebuilding a platform while the whole category shifts around you creates real tension. That’s exactly why we didn’t chase every new AI feature one by one. We rebuilt IC 3.0 on a new foundation designed to absorb new technology as it matures, rather than bolt it on after the fact.”
The tools will keep changing but what doesn’t change is why organizations need them. To stay genuinely connected. That’s the part of this work that still motivates us most, 25+ years in.
