Last week, Intranet Connection’s CEO Rob Nikkel joined Kipra Anand, on the Canadian SME podcast to speak about the evolution of corporate communication in 2026 and how workplaces can facilitation better connection between their people and their tools.

The key topic was fragmentation and tool fatigue. While millions of dollars have been invested into digital transformation tools, chat apps and video conferencing, employee engagement numbers show that teams continue to feel isolated and discounted. However, the sheer number of tools available to users is partly to blame for this phenomenon.

Many organizations have fallen into assuming; more communication tools automatically mean more connection. However, without governance, the result is often fragmentation, silos, and dips in productivity.

This is especially emphasized in remote, hybrid, and distributed organizations, where connection and communication require more intention and strategy than in centralized office settings.

They also spoke about the importance of simplicity, something Intranet Connections builds around. Particularly, in compliance driven organizations, where changes occur frequently and details are key, replacing manual and complicated processes with simple automated workflows can make keeping records easy.

Rob also touched on how the decision to build IC 3.0 from the ground up rather than continuing to evolve incrementally, allowed IC to add with intention rather than patch. With AI at the forefront of conversations about the future of technology, the conversation moved to utilizing AI as the tool not a replacement and finished on the importance of having a content and tooling strategy to facilitate connection.
