Summary: We’ve rounded out the top 5 personality types you’ll find in your workplace including; The Socialite, The Innovator, The Researcher, The Organizer, and The Achiever. Which one are you?
You see the people you work with more often than close friends, and sometimes even family. When it comes to your workplace you’ve been hand-selected based on skillset and experience, in addition to some degree of ‘cultural fit’. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that we all interact and engage with one another differently. The differences I speak of came to the foreground during one of our daily huddles in which the huddle leader asked the question: What is your favorite tool to use on your intranet? I thought it would be an easy answer for everyone; wall posts, duh! But after going around the circle I realized how different each of us is.
I sought to find the answer as to why we engage so differently from one another. I was able to attribute it to our different workplace personality types, 5 specifically. So, which one are you?
The Socialite
The Socialite is interested in all things entertaining! After going around the circle it seemed as though I fell easily into this category. I take joy in new Wall Posts, I looked forward to interacting with upcoming social events and finding time to upload photos from last month’s team-building activity.
Although your intranet is known for providing the information you need to get work done, there are many ways to engage The Socialite workplace personality type. From having an engaging name for your intranet (such as VERN) to providing the tools for posting interesting information, your Socialite will always favor the nice-to-have features over the necessities!
The Innovator
The Innovator will march full-speed ahead in their quest to find the best way to get from point A to point B. Despite how your intranet is configured, The Innovator will introduce new methods, ideas, or products to ensure all staff, not just themselves, are getting the information they need in a timely manner! Online forms are The Innovator’s favorite tool and there is never a shortage of opportunities to streamline processes using them. Is Accounting having an issue keeping track of petty cash? Online forms. Does HR struggle to distill answers from recent interviews? Online forms. The Innovator sees the path of least resistance and will show others the way to it!
The Researcher
The Researcher’s primary reasons for being on the intranet are purpose-driven. They have a question that needs answering and they will systematically investigate everything on the intranet to find it. Luckily search has improved on intranets which means The Researcher won’t be looking around too long to find the right answer! Which department fell under this workplace personality type the most? Operations of course… Bookkeeping, Account Management – The Researchers are the oil that keeps this machine moving!
The Organizer
The Organizer… well they organize. They have this incredible ability to break down seemingly impossible goals into achievable pieces. By quickly evaluating a situation they can make firm decisions and move forward. For example – is a large company event coming up? First things first, let The Organizer survey employees to find the best date for the event, add the event to the online calenda , and distribute it to everyone in a company blog post. One word; Wow – The Organizer knows all the tools on the intranet and isn’t afraid to use them!
The Achiever
The Achiever aims to be successful. To them, everything is an opportunity to WIN. They are positive thinkers who believe in themselves and their abilities. Providing this workplace personality type the opportunity to be self-sufficient is the first step in ensuring The Achiever recognizes they can accomplish anything they set out to do. The intranet provides them with all the information they need to do their job, and they won’t stop there. Overall; give them lemons and they’ll make lemonade!
The intranet is the tool that brings all these workplace personality types together! From having a tool that engages The Socialites yet fuels The Researcher, the intranet can really shed light on the people you work with every day!
