How Dannemora FCU launched a financial intranet that became a document management hub

About Dannemora Federal Credit Union

Dannemora FCU has been serving the people of New York for over 60 years; founded by a group of employees from Dannemora State Hospital who wanted a place to save and borrow money safely. Today, Dannemora FCU operates four branches with 52 employees.

The challenges

Before Dannemora FCU became an IC customer, they wanted to find a way to increase companywide engagement while also making information more readily accessible. Ideally, they wanted all critical information in one place and to create a single source of truth! That’s where we come in…

Document management

Using IC’s financial intranet solution, Dannemora FCU could practice better document management. Since launching their new intranet in the summer of 2022, Marketing and Communications Specialist, Amanda McMahon, has led the intranet project and has uploaded essential documents, news, and policies to their intranet—which they named “The Den” (featuring hidden foxes into their intranet design). Employees at Dannemora FCU have embraced and welcomed the change, providing feedback that they could now access policies in just a few clicks, as opposed to having to ask a colleague.

Amanda also uploaded their extensive, physical employee handbook onto The Den, allowing employees across branches to access the large document directly from their computers without having to sift through pages to find the critical piece of information they were looking for.

Scavenger hunts on your financial intranet

To bolster The Den as their new single source of truth for employees, Dannemora FCU launched their intranet with a scavenger hunt—which is one of IC’s favorite ways to launch a new intranet. It is a fun way to get people motivated to check out the new intranet and become familiar with its UI.

An added level of connection and organization

Dannemora FCU’s new financial intranet has also become a hub for events and important dates within the credit union. Whereas employees previously used email to communicate events, the built-in calendar app in IC’s intranet software now allows all 48 employees to view important dates and feel integrated with their community without the need for potentially lengthy and confusing email chains.

Additionally, Dannemora FCU brought some fun to its intranet in the form of a message board allowing employees to discuss their favorite TV shows, movies, and music. Being spread out over four branches in upstate New York, employees are able to connect and communicate with colleagues they may not often see in person.

When Dannemora FCU chose IC as their financial intranet provider, not only were they getting great software, but they were also getting access to our excellent support team. By working closely with Amanda, the team at IC was able to help get The Den launched in 2022 without any involvement from Dannemora FCU’s IT team.
